1/31/2012

I first stepped outside today around 7:30 a.m. and I believe the temperature was around 28°F but it still felt a little cold. This was mostly due to the cloudy skies. There was probably 85% cloud cover with cirrostratus clouds predominate. The clouds started to dissipate as the day went on and we reached a daily high of 43 which came very close to the record high of 43 set in 1952. Winds are starting to pick up more now in the evening coming out of WSW at 16 mph with the barometric pressure increasing rapidly as well which means that a system of high pressure(Cold Front) is moving into the area as you can see in the map below. A cold front is indicated by the blue and warm front in red. Because cold air is heavy, it does not rise and brings a lot of pressure therefore it is called a High Pressure system.
This means that the temperature will be cooler than it was today, however, we should still see temperatures in the upper 30's which is pretty darn good for Wisconsin in January.

1/30/2012

Today was another awesome warm day which have become somewhat commonplace and even expected this winter. It was cloudy most of the day with approximately 85% cloud cover and I believe they were cirrus clouds to be more exact. Today we reached a high of 39.2° and a low of 14°. There was maybe a slight hint of wind today from the WSW. There is a stationary front moving through which basically nothing is going to change. Humidity is currently at 77% and the forecast is for more warm weather tomorrow and into Wednesday even.

January 29, 2012

Today was a pretty average day in January temperature-wise. The high today reached 20° F and low of 12.02° F. It was relatively sunny all day with sparse cloud cover. Right now the current conditions are 13.5° F(real feel of 10.2° F.) with relative humidity sitting at 67%, a dew point of 4.6° F, and a SE wind blowing at  2 mph. There is a slight possibility of snow tonight into the morning. Let's hope not, I do not feel like shoveling on a Monday.

Introduction

The purpose of this blog is to post daily weather updates throughout the spring semester for my Weather and Society class. At first, the posts will be very basic and will hopefully get more scientific and detailed as I delve deeper into the world of weather.
